On the 13th September 2008, Orange residents had to vote in the Local Government Elections. This site was created to help the candidates for Orange introduce themselves to the voters.
Now – we are keeping it alive as a community service with the aim of creating an honest, positive, communication point between the residents of Orange and our elected Orange City councillors.
As individuals we each have a voice – if we speak up in a positive way – we can be heard and make a difference.
WE ARE THE VOICE!…perhaps you would like to use yours.
Let’s make this a first – a positive, beneficial, community interaction – that moves Orange forward into the future. A site for good positive input that will help our Councillors – provide them with more information and ideas about what the people of Orange would like from them.
Let us tell you about our reasons, hopes and aims for this site.
Our belief is that when choosing to run for Council a candidate is choosing to speak for the people of Orange and to work on their behalf to better the wonderful area we live in. Candidates and Councillors with this true spirit we commend for taking a stand – there are many of us who do not want this job.
On the other hand we feel that there should be no personal agendas – neither business promotion agendas, political agendas or attempts to enhance a personal profile – whether it be for notoriety or some other reason in our candidates/councillors. Councillors should be elected on an individual basis with majority votes as the voters have chosen – not on groups and deals that change this status.

This site is great!
I no longer live in Orange but forgot to change my electoral details before the closing date. Thankfully I stumbled across the site on someone’s Facebook page.
It’s been great to have a better idea (well, an idea at all really!) of who I’m voting for and what they’ll be doing for my hometown while I’m not there.

Congratulations to the authors of this website, without which I wouldn’t have been able to make an informed decision on Saturday.

Thank you Howard and Pam for setting this site up for all of the candidates.
Your site has given many voters an unbiased site for them to look at and make an informed decision. Once again thank you.

Excellent site. This should be compulsory for all candidates in every election – tell us who YOU are, not what ticket or group you are working with. Democracy relies on people choosing people to remain true to purpose. Creating this site was a wonderful intitative. Jono Gregory

Thankyou Pam and Howard for the work you have put into the site. It has obviously assisted many people in becoming more informed on candidates throughout the lead-up to the election. I congratulate everyone who has stood as a candidate and wish the incoming councillors all the best for the next term.
