2008 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
My name is Glenn Taylor I am 47 years of age and I was born and raised in the City of Orange. My partner Kathy and I have a daughter Caitlin aged 6. Kathy has two older children Alysia 24 and Josh 23. Kathy is a teacher of the deaf in the Orange district. In the past I have owned and operated my own business, been a Ministerial Advisor at a State level and a Government Liaison officer.
My interests include Motor racing, Rugby league ( supporting the South Sydney Rabbitohs), Motorcycling, fighting a losing battle to keep fit, being as active as I can with my daughter, and trying to relax when those rare opportunities present themselves.
I have been an Orange City Councillor for a period of 13 years having been first elected in 1995.
I have served as Deputy Mayor for 5 terms 1999 to 2004 and again in 2005/06.
I am currently the Chairman of the Councils Crime Prevention and Community Safety Committee. And Disability Access committee.
In the past I have served on many other Community based Committees including the Orange Youth Refuge, and the Business enterprise Centre (BEC).
I am a member of The Australian Labor Party and was the endorsed Labor Candidate for the State seat of Orange in 1995, 1999, and 2003 State Elections. I have served as Orange Branch President for many years and been a delegate to the NSW State Labor conference since 1994.
Some of my proudest achievements since being elected to Council include Securing the funding for the The Northern Distributor road in 2003, Ensuring the retention of the Parental responsibility act in Orange, Fighting for the rights of the battlers, the elderly, and people with a disabilities in Orange. and the implementation of CCTV Security cameras in the CBD to help make Orange a safer community.
I have served on most of Councils Committees including such diverse issues as Traffic committee Chairman, Economic Development Committee, Heritage advisory committee, Community Services committee, Youth advisory committee to name a few, But one of the most rewarding roles has been my role as the Chairman of the Disability Access Committee,
IF ELECTED TO ORANGE CITY COUNCIL ON SEPTEMBER 13th MY PRIORITIES WILL BE TO -
- Secure Orange’s Water Supply by supporting the raising of the Suma Park Dam wall.
- Increase Rainwater tank rebates
- Make decisions based on commonsense principals.
- Fight to keep rates at affordable levels.
- Oppose any selloff of Orange’s Parks.
- Establish the Community Advisory Committee system where members of the community can participate and make direct recommendations to Council. (This was abolished by the current Council).
- Support the reestablishment of the Pensioner Rate rebate. (Abolished by the current Council.)
- Support the fast tracking of traffic lights at the corner of William Street and Bathurst Road, and Cox Ave and Bathurst Rd.
- Ensure Council Debt levels are contained to affordable levels.
- Support a Back to Basics approach to the maintenance of our Roads, Footpaths, and Parks and gardens. By ensuring they are adequately funded in the budget.
- Support a priority listing for new footpaths based on need eg; near schools,
- Fight to protect our Heritage buildings.
- Always listen to the community; I have learnt from many years experience that you cannot go wrong if you listen to the people.
I commit to the people of Orange that I will always put their interests first, I have no other property other than my home, and I strongly believe that Councillors should not property speculate or be developers whilst serving on Council. I have always acted with complete honesty during my time on Council and I will continue to fight for what I believe is right for people of Orange.
