Councillor Jason D’arcy Hamling - Deputy Mayor
Marital Status: Married with 2 young sons and another child on the way.
Born in Orange, I attended Glenroi Public School and Canobolas High Schools. Sport played a big role in my school life, where I developed my leadership skills as well as enjoying playing sport in a team. I captained my school rugby league & union sides and was selected for regional and state teams where I continued my role as captain.
After finishing my HSC I travelled, spending time in Darwin, and also travelling overseas to the United Kingdom and the Middle East.
When I returned to Orange, I found work at WIN Television, starting as a trainee camera operator and editor. I am now the Head News Cameraman overseeing a staff of six. I am very fortunate that my job allows me to travel throughout the Central West region and as a result I get to talk to many local residents, politicians and business people.
I have played Rugby Union for several local teams, including Emus & Orange City and have represented at the Central West level for Rugby Union.
My first term as an Orange City Councillor has been a huge learning experience. Having no political experience made finding my feet a challenge but I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved whilst on Council, especially in the last two years.
As Chairman of the Tidy Towns and Sports Committees, I have secured awards for numerous community projects and I have advocated for state wide recognition of local facilities.
I was instrumental in bringing A League Soccer pre-season games to our city forging a strong partnership between Orange and the Central Coast-based Mariners, as well as making inroads into bringing NRL games west of the Blue Mountains.
Being a part of the $7 million dollar redevelopment of Anzac Park to give local residents a state of the art indoor sports arena is one of my proudest achievements.
Should I be elected for the upcoming term as a Councillor of Orange City Council I will focus on securing the Water Supply and seeing through the raft of measures in the $41 million water plan that the current Council has devised.
I’m a strong believer in continuing negotiations with both State & Federal Governments to see their share of funding brought to the table.
I am working to see through a number of upgrades to sporting & recreational facilities.
I am proud to be part of an Orange City Council that has established regular community forums – essentially bringing ‘the Council to the people’.
