There are 12 positions on the Orange City Council to be filled.
There are 43 Candidates
You have to vote – its the law.
A FORMAL vote consists of a selection of 6 candidates up to a maximum of 43 candidates.
ANY less than 6 makes your vote INFORMAL and it doesn’t count. You have wasted your time.
You may vote in one of two ways:
EITHER – above the line – or – below the line
VOTING BELOW THE LINE
When you vote below the line, your vote stays below the line.
Here you can choose the INDIVIDUALS that you want to represent you on Council. Place the numbers “1”, “2”, “3”, “4”, “5” and “6” in the squares next to the 6 candidates in order of your preferences for them.
You MUST vote for a minimum of 6 candidates or your vote doesn’t count. You may vote for as many more candidates as you wish (up to 43) – you may want to vote for your 12 preferred candidates that you want to see on council – simply number them all in order of your preference -
VOTING ABOVE THE LINE
When you vote above the line, your vote stays with the group(s) that you have voted for.
Here you can choose the GROUPS that you want to represent you on Council. Place the number “1” in the square above the group of candidates for whom you wish to vote. By doing this you have voted for every candidate whose name appears below the line in that group whether you have chosen to vote for them all or not.
To constitute a FORMAL vote above the line you can only vote above the line for groups A, C, D, F, G & H.
If you want to vote for groups B, E or the ungrouped candidates on the far right of the ballot sheet your whole vote must be below the line.
To constitute a formal vote above the line, the group must have a minimum of 6 candidates in it. YOU CANNOT VOTE BOTH ABOVE AND BELOW THE LINE. You may vote for more groups of 6 if you wish.
